So apparently dogs aren't the only ones who can sniff out and devour chocolate. So can 2 year olds. You'd think that I'd learn after the first one got devoured by burke, but I didn't. I'd left my lovely (most favorite) chocolate orange sitting almost behind our computer last night. I'd stayed up all hours to finish cinnamon rolls (which are delicious, and I made 60 of them, so if anyone wants one....) needless to say, I was pretty sleepy this morning, and when a little someone came into my room around 7:30, I just pretended to be asleep - because really, what harm can a little kid that size do? That was my faulty logic coming through right there. Well, I actually slept through an hour of him climbing all over me and then he was quiet. What a nice little boy. He knew his mom needed some sleep so he thought to himself "self, I'll just sit here quietly and look and my pretty mamma while she's sleeping." YA RIGHT. Apparently that wasn't exciting enough, so he climbed up on our computer chair, somehow reached across our desk, took the chocolate orange out of the box, then the plastic, (and made sure to throw all the garbage in the garbage (he's learned something), then sat there long enough for the thing to melt in his hand. Then he decided that the orange would probably taste better if he walked around our house with it. Every door and frame that was 2 feet off the ground had little chocolate hand prints all over it. He had gotten it all over our extra dining chairs and the desk, his blanket, every door knob. I decided to wake out of my slumber because it dawned on me that it might just be a little to quiet. So I walked over to our closet, and low and behold, there the little monster sat - right by the dry clean only section -munching away at this blob that was chocolate. He had it all over his face, 2 inches deep on his hands, all over his jammies, and who knows what clothes he touched. I'm sure I'll find out sometime. I just stood there in disbelief. My entire chocolate orange was gone. Poor me. Now I don't have any chocolate. OK, that's not really the first thought that entered my mind, but it was a close second. I picked him up by his arm pits and hauled him downstairs. The whole time, he was saying "chocolate - dirty". He made sure to tell me that he needed his hands washed. Thanks for the help Austin! So later I was walking around with a wet rag following the chocolate trail, and he would follow behind me and was so nice to point out any spots that I might have missed. If they were clean, he thought I should wipe them off anyway. Such a good little boy. All I can say is that I better be getting another chocolate orange for Christmas, and maybe I'll take extra care to hide it better next time. BTW - this picture doesn't really do him justice, he was 5 times messier than it looks. And quite possibly a little sick.
